GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

Selat Melaka Journal welcomes original manuscripts from academics, researchers, and practitioners. All submissions must comply with the journal’s focus and scope, ethical standards, and author guidelines.

1. Scope of the Journal

Manuscripts should be relevant to multidisciplinary studies focusing on the Malacca Strait and coastal–maritime contexts, including but not limited to:

  1. Education
  2. Social sciences and humanities
  3. Economics and business
  4. Environmental and marine studies
  5. Law and governance
  6. Culture and religion
  7. Other related interdisciplinary fields

2. Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  1. Research Articles
  2. Conceptual or Theoretical Papers
  3. Case Studies
  4. Critical Studies
  5. Literature Reviews

3. Language

Manuscripts must be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia using clear, academic, and grammatically correct language.

4. Manuscript Originality

Submitted manuscripts must be:

  • Original works
  • Not previously published
  • Not under consideration by another journal

All submissions will be screened for plagiarism using similarity detection software.

5. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be prepared in the following order:

  1. Title
    b. Author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s)
    c. Corresponding author’s email
    d. Abstract (150–250 words)
    e. Keywords (3–5 keywords)
    f. Introduction
    g. Literature Review (if applicable)
    h. Methodology
    i. Results and Discussion
    j. Conclusion
    k. Acknowledgments (if any)
    l. References

6. Formatting Guidelines

  1. File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
  2. Paper size: A4
  3. Font: Times New Roman
  4. Font size: 12 pt
  5. Line spacing: 1.5
  6. Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
  7. Length: 6,000–8,000 words (including references)

7. Abstract and Keywords

  1. Abstract must summarize objectives, methods, results, and conclusions
  2. Written in one paragraph
  3. Keywords must reflect the core topics of the manuscript

8. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

  1. Tables and figures must be clear and numbered consecutively
  2. Titles should be placed above tables and below figures
  3. Sources must be cited if adapted from other works

9. Citation and References

  1. References must follow the APA (7th edition) style
  2. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software (e.g., Mendeley, Zotero)
  3. All cited references must appear in the reference list and vice versa

10. Ethical Considerations

Authors must comply with the journal’s Publication Ethics policy.
Research involving human participants must include ethical approval and informed consent where applicable.

11. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The use of AI-generated content for writing, data analysis, or image creation is strictly prohibited.
Permitted AI assistance (e.g., grammar checking) must be disclosed in the acknowledgment section in accordance with the journal’s AI Policy.

12. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted online through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform of Selat Melaka Journal. Authors must complete all required metadata during submission.

13. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process involving at least two independent reviewers. Editorial decisions are based on reviewers’ recommendations and academic merit.

14. Article Processing Charge (APC)

Selat Melaka Journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 500,000 for each article accepted for publication.

  1. APC is charged only after acceptance
  2. No submission or review fees are applied

15. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work.
Published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

16. Revision and Proofreading

Authors are required to revise manuscripts based on reviewers’ comments and submit a point-by-point response. Final proofs must be approved by the authors before publication.

17. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit complaints or appeals regarding editorial decisions in accordance with the journal’s Complaints and Appeals Policy.
